The longer letter from Sunrise Village

Written on leaving, after the full visit. Card posted 28 October 2026.

Sunrise Village is the postcard with the least on the back, and that's the point. You inherit a farm on an island wrapped in fog, and the loop is: clear a little fog, meet a villager, plant something, cook something, clear a little more. The art is warm and the writing is light, and nothing in it is trying to hurt you.

What surprised me is how much exploration there is. Each cleared stretch of island has a small puzzle or a character with a request, and the map keeps going longer than I expected. The energy system is the only brake; it refills on its own, and the shop's main pitch is to refill it faster. I never paid and never felt I needed to.

It won't hold a strategy player for a month. The decisions are what to plant and where to walk, and by the third week the timers were doing more of the pacing than I was. But as a ten-minute morning ritual it's the most pleasant thing on the rack, and the one I'd send to someone who says they don't play games.

Go if

  • You want calm and a short daily ritual
  • Exploration appeals more than competition
  • You are handing this to someone new to the genre

Stay home if

  • You want decisions that compound over months
  • Energy timers annoy you on principle
