Faded Postmarkpostcards from five worlds

How we rate

Four marks, one stamp

Every world on the rack got a fresh account and at least four weeks of visits, in Chrome and Firefox on an ordinary laptop, without spending a penny. The note on the back of the card is written in week one. The longer letter is written when we leave. The stamp is decided last.

35%Scenery

Depth. Are the decisions still interesting after a month, or has the world turned into collecting timers?

30%Welcome

How the world treats a visitor who never pays, and how loudly the shop asks. A high mark means you can ignore it.

20%Pace of life

How soon a new arrival gets to the first real decision, and whether the middle of the game keeps moving.

15%Upkeep

How well the place is kept: interface, stability and load times over long sessions in a tab.

The stamp

The stamp is the weighted total out of ten. Nothing under 7.0 is posted; a world that scores lower gets no card rather than a bad one, because a rack of things we don't recommend isn't useful to anyone.

Who pays for the postage

Affiliate commissions. The "Set off" buttons lead to each publisher's official site through a tracking link, and if you create an account afterwards the publisher may pay us. That doesn't change the price you pay, and it has never changed a stamp. Publishers don't see cards before they're posted and can't buy a place on the rack.

When cards change

We revisit every world each season. If a mark moves, the letter says so and the date on the card is updated.
